If you’re leading a youth ministry, it’s possible to spend a big chunk of your time shopping. Shopping for events, game supplies, food for meetings, etc. And let’s get real: when you put sermon prep on hold again because you forgot you needed a dozen eggs for a game, it gets old.
Well Wal-Mart just made youth ministry a whole lot easier. I’m talking about their Grocery Pick Up service. This is a game changer.
When I first saw this around town I was instantly intrigued, and now that I’ve seen it in action I’m hooked. Put in your zip code, find the nearest store that does this, and then shop FROM your office!
Need a banana for a game? Add it to your cart. Need some cases of water for a service project? Add it to your cart. Need fruit trays, salad bags, ground beef, or anything else for a leader meeting? Add it to your cart. Need some Wing trays for the Big Game? Add it to your cart!
The home page has what’s trending at your store, but the drop down menu opens up the entire store to you:
Once you have $30 in your cart you can checkout and a Wal-Mart employee will go shopping for you. They hunt down your entire order and have it bagged (by category) and ready for you at the pick-up time you select.
Check it out, you pick the day you want to go (helpful for planning for the upcoming weekend instead of shopping last minute on your day off) and a 2-hour time slot (so if you’re free on your lunch break, go meet with a student and then run by Wal-Mart to pick everything up, instead of skipping out on contact work because you don’t have enough time to do both)!
They’ll even load it in your car for you.
For my family what used to take over an hour now takes 20 minutes. For my ministry, what used to be a time suck (where I’d inevitably forget something anyway…every single time) has now become a huge asset!
