Ephesians 4.15-16: Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
According to this verse all Christians are part of the body of Christ. And each part of the body must do its work.
Have you ever broken a bone or been sick? When a part of your body isn’t working right, what happens to the rest of you?
If we are part of the Body, we need to know how we were designed to work so the body can grow. And when we discover our spiritual gift(s), we can begin to function how we were created to function.
A “spiritual gift” is a unique attribute that the Holy Spirit gives believers. And one of the main reasons He gives them to us is so the body can grow.
Why do we need to know what our gift is? Because you are connected to something much bigger than you and you need to know how to play your part to the best of your ability. Remember, if one part isn’t working right, the rest of the body can’t work right.
Also, when you know your gift, you start to know your purpose. And when you know your purpose, your life begins to come more into focus.
Today at the Mid-High gathering, we used LeaderTreks’ “Discovering Your Spiritual Gift” Student Guide to help us start the process of discovering what our gifts might be. Next week we’re going to unpack how to use those gifts in the youth ministry, in the church, and in The Church.
